Water Leak Detection and Repair

One in ten homes in the US have a leak somewhere in their plumbing. Over the course of a year, this can add up to more than 10,000 gallons wasted per year per home! Finding and repairing any and all leaks in your home’s plumbing will not only save you money in the long run, but it can also prevent costly repairs due to water damage, including but not limited to Black Mold

Common areas for water leaks:

  • Toilet Flapper Valve: NOTE: MAKE SURE TO FLUSH THE TOILET AFTER 15 MINUTES TO PREVENT STAINING YOUR TOILET BOWL you can add a little bit of food coloring to the top reservoir of your toilet, and if the food coloring makes it into the bowl within 15 minutes, you have a leaking flapper valve.
  • Leaking Shower Head: Go into your shower and count the drips. If it is more than 10 drips per minute, you are wasting more than 500 gallons per year!
  • Faucets
  • Irrigation/Sprinklers: Your irrigation system should be inspected every spring to ensure that no pipes have cracked or ruptured over the winter due to cold/freezing temperatures. A common occurrence is a leaking sprinkler valve.
  • Hose Bibs: your hose bibs can also be a source of a slow leak. Inspect for leaks, and if water drips out when you have a hose connected, try replacing the rubber washer/gasket on the end of the hose.
